WC/WCX
 

HVGRC's annual Working Certificate and Working Certificate Excellent will take place on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the Stewart State Forest, Newburgh, NY.

Stakes and Judges

WC/WCX: Mary Hilderbrandt, Jane Jackson

Regulations: WC/WCX tests are held under the auspices of the Golden Retriever Club of America and are open to all retriever breeds, standard poodles and Irish water spaniels. Rules and guidelines for these events can be found here. Non-golden dog owners are responsible for handling the necessary paperwork for certificates and approval from their parent breed club.

Birds: Ducks on water and Pheasant and/or Chukar and/or Pigeons in all stakes.

Entry Fees: WC $40; WCX $50, Puppy Stakes $20.  There will be a $5 premium for post entries.

Entry Limit: Post entries in all stakes will be taken until limit is reached. Post entries for WC&WCX will be eligible for certification by GRCA but the entry will not have been published in the catalog. Preference will be given to Golden Retrievers currently untitled in the stake entered. If the limit is not reached, the remaining entry will be filled with untitled dogs of other breeds, then with titled golden retrievers, and then titled dogs of other breeds.

Prizes: Rosettes and Pins to WC and WCX qualifiers. Recognition certificate mailed later by GRCA.  Ribbons for Puppy Stakes

Drawing: 6:00 PM  August 1, 2010 at the home of the test secretary

Bitches in season are not allowed on the grounds.

Wingers:  Wingers may be used in the WCX test at the discretion of the judges.

Refund Policy: After the closing date, refunds are offered ONLY for bitches in season or for injured dogs. The test secretary must receive notification of a scratch before the date indicated in the premium. A written refund application for legitimate scratches accompanied by an appropriate veterinarian's certificate must be received by the secretary within 10 days after the event.

Facilities: Participants are expected to provide for their own and their dogs' comfort. Bring food, drink, protection from the sun or rain, chairs, etc. Be prepared for a day-long outing in the country.

Food: Bagles and coffee will be provided in the morning. Restaurants, delis, gas stations, and lodging are located outside the Stewart State Forest gates along route 17K, a 15- to 20-minute drive from the test sites.

Access: The gate combination will be given out at each stake.  Those wishing to leave or re-enter must maintain the gate lock and chain protocol.  The gate must be re-locked by whoever unlocks.

Emergency Veterinary Care:  Should your dog require medical care, Flannery Animal Hospital is open for emergencies 24-hours a day.  It is located at the intersection of Rte 300 and Little Britain Road.  Take Rte 17K east to Route 300 (Union Ave).  Go right on Rte 300.  Turn left onto Rte 207/300. At next traffic light turn left on to 207/Little Britain Rd. The hospital is on the right-hand side.  Their phone number is 845-565-PETS.

Note:   Participants should arrive well before 8:30 AM so that the WC/WCX can start at 9:00.  Allow plenty of time to get to the site. 



Directions

From the East: West on I-84 to Exit 6, go right off the exit west on 17K. Look for signs at Ridge Road (2 miles down 17K) or Barron Road (3 miles down 17K). Turn left to gate.

From NYS Thruway: I-87 (N or S) to Exit 17 (Newburgh). Bear left at Y after tolls. Turn right at T-intersection onto 17K west. Go about 2 miles until you go under I-84, then proceed as above from Exit 6.

From the West: East on I-84 to Exit 5. Go left off the exit onto Rte 208 North. Go 1.7miles to the intersection with Rte 17K. Turn right onto Rte 17K east. Signs will be posted at Barron Road (about a mile) or Ridge Road (about 2 miles). Turn right to gate.
